in to northern new jersey. we have a few in western maryland and west virginia. temperature-wise it is really muggy and sticky out there. 81 cambridge at this hour. even in the mid to upper 70s in the shenandoah valley. we are at 79. 84 by 9:00. and this afternoon some scattered storms move north to south. temperatures by five in the upper 80s. time for traffic. >>> good morning. we are keeping an eye on the accident at prince william parkway near the hack kwan river bridge. all westbound lanes, one lane is open. all eastbound lanes are closed. avoid the area. the closures will be in place the next half hour or. so in manassas, an ongoing police activity is disrupting traffic between wellington and nokesville road. that will be in place for a while. avoid the area if you can. interstate traffic on 95, volume is picking up between prince william parkway and lorton, but all lanes are open. up to 395, duke and seminary, volume there as well but no major incidents or accidents reported but a crash in maryland, 270, route 85 off to the right shoulder. we are seeing some traffic b

earlier this morning that came through western maryland, panhandle ofl west virginia and into northern maryland. that's up into southern pennsylvania, near york pennsylvania and continuing to move off to the east. it is up to 87 in washington. the heat is on even with the cloud cover. it has warmed into the mid and upper 80s, not only here but around the bay and the eastern shore. it is in the 80s around the blue ridge and shenandoah valley. over the last 12 hours, we have had this cloud cover coming in in advance of a weak front way out in the midwest. it's going to bring a bit of welcomed relief by the end of the week. for this afternoon, partly sunny, humid, a chance of a passing thunderstorm between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. highs reach the low and mid-90s. a look at the rest of the week and some changes on the way and the weekend as well. that will be coming up in a few minutes. stay tuned. >>> we'll see you in a few minutes. vre is already expanding its new express train service just one day after it started. the new service from fredericksburg to union station ran the inaugural trip ye

of a big rally in washington today. but right now we begin our focus on maryland's weather and traffic. here's howard. >>> good morning. we are looking similar to the last few days in maryland where it is hot and sticky with more thunderstorms here and there, especially this afternoon. looking at things this morning relatively quiet. western maryland seeing a couple of showers this morning. as we start in the 60s and 70s and will climb to the 80-degree mark or so by 9:00 a.m. through midday, the chance of thunderstorms start to increase from west to east to the lunch hour. well though the 80s to 90s. highs topping out low 90s in spots this afternoon with a threat of a thunderstorm or two. >>> a couple of cameras focusing on maryland traffic. we begin with a live shot at quince orchard and clopper road. drivers are stopped at the light. overall no problems to report out this way. as we shift things over to georgia avenue and viersmill looks like the same situation. nice and quiet. and finally all aboard, we are flying over 50 westbound from the bay bridge to bowie toward washington. loo

than usual. on the capital beltway in maryland, things are filling out around the georgia avenue exit. overall not really many problems. 95 an the bw parkway, also smooth sailing and nice and green out of baltimore to 495. this is an eyesore. 66 eastbound early morning issues. jammed from 123 to the capital beltway. at least a 20 minute drive right now and this is partly due to lingering construction. finally a look at the travel times, 267 the toll road, eastbound seven minutes is what it is taking to get from 674 to the beltway. seven minutes on dc 295 to the 11th street bridge. traveling the outer loop from van doren to the wilson bridge is only taking you about seven. back to you. >>> in the living well segment, childhood cancer survivors may be at risk for heart disease later in life. researchers studied 600 kids treated with therapies that could potentially hurt the heart an they found out after 15 years 27% developed cardiac problems. >>> a new study found people who use the internet to help lose weight tend to be more success. they followed 1600 people. those that logged on to

, maryland. tom fitzgerald is live with more. the neighborhood got good news? >> reporter: we've been here all day. two minutes before we went on the air, traffic lights came back on, and this neighborhood up on river road finally got power back. we just received an updated e- mail from pepco. let me read it to you. i'll get out of the road while we do this. in montgomery county now, there are 20149 customers out of power, out of 300,000 that were previously out. in prince george county, 2746 homes remain without power, out of 220,000 that were out. and in dc, 1,655 homes are without power tonight. and while pepco made good progress over the last couple hours on the situation, the next 24 hours are going to involve some of their most intricate work. and here is why. a lot of outages that are left are because of situations like that, particular lines that have been entwined with trees. when the trees came down, so did the lines. line crews fanned out, are trying to get to the pockets now piece by piece. four days after this massive tree went down on hatting ton lane, pepco lines men started
